A Governor’s Story: The Fight for Jobs and America’s Economic Future – Co-authors Jennifer Granholm & Dan Mulhern

Mon, 10/17/2011 – 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters, SF

Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm inherited a financial crisis that put not just her state, but the entire American auto industry at risk. Her response to this crisis makes for a gripping account of grit and optimism, as her pragmatism collides with political gamesmanship and ideology. Through innovations that include private-public partnerships with clean energy businesses and auto companies, and a restructured workforce training program, Granholm’s efforts spurred more than $57 billion in private investment. In 2010, jobs grew at the fastest rate of any other state, and by the year 2020, new companies are expected to create nearly 90,000 jobs.
